German and Hungarian Forces at Nyiregyháza, 1944

A German Panzer IV enters the city of Nyiregyháza near to the conclusion of the great tank Battle of the Puszta (aka The Battle of Debrecen) fought on the flatlands of eastern Hungary during October, 1944. While the Wehrmacht had come out on top in this final armored encounter, thus enabling its forces a safe withdrawal through Nyiregyháza, the Soviets won the main puszta battle and conquered much of eastern Hungary, including the nearby city of Debrecen.
