Group of P-47's from the 62nd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group, 8th AF. (LM-B) P-47C-2-RE s/n 41-6193 named "Ginger" and flown by Lt. Robert Taylor. This plane crashlanded at Thorney Island,England on Sept. 23,1943 and condemned on Feb. 5,1944. (LM-O) P-47C-5-RE s/n 41-6347 named "Li'l Abner/Torchy" on the left side and "Jessie O" on the right side and flown by Capt. Eugene O'Neil. This plane was later converted to a 2-seater for use by the XXIX Tactical Air Command. (LM-G) P-47D-1-RE s/n 42-7866 named "The Greek" and was flown by Lt. Harry Coronios. This plane crashed on Sept. 5,1943 at Halesworth due to a faulty prop control. (LM-R) P-47D-1-RE s/n 42-7870 named "Pappy" was flown by Maj. Horace Craig. (LM-X) P-47C s/n 41-6224 later named "Two Roll Charlie" was flown by Lt. Conway Saux. Lt. Saux was later killed in a mid-air collision while flying this aircraft on Aug. 22,1943. Lt. Donald Tettemer,the pilot of the other aircraft,was also killed. (LM-C) P-47D-2-RE s/n 42-7979 named "Spirit of Bellflower,CA" was flown by Lt. Byron Morrill. This aircraft was lost on Nov. 26,1943.(rudeerude)
