Dad's (Down Under) Army.

Government of New Zealand.

Members of the New Zealand Home Guard on parade, ?1942. If these lads are representative, this really was a "Dad's Army". New Zealand raised a local defence force to face the threat of invasion by the Japanese. As the war progressed, and this threat was beaten back, the force was more or less allowed to fade away. This is in contrast to the British Home Guard, which was developed from a "Dad's Army" into pre-enlistment training force for young men destined for the Army. Typical NZ determination, though. Best regards, JR.
