Photograph of the 600mm "Karl" siege mortar taken at the moment of firing. This was the second largest gun in the Wehrmacht's inventory; two of them were used in the bombardment of the Soviet fortress of Brest-Litovsk on 22 June 1941 (the start of the Russian campaign).
