Buenaventura Durruti's funeral

Picture of the funeral of Buenaventura Durruti Dumange (1896-1936), anarchist lider and one of the most important members of the CNT-FAI. After his dead, he was called "Héroe del Pueblo" (People's Hero"). The circumstances of his death are not clear. During the combats in the district of Ciudad Universitaria de Madrid (November 12 of 1936), he was wounded by a strange bullet. He was quickly taken to the Ritz hotel, the HQ of the "Columa Durruti". In November 20, he dead of pleural hemorrhage. His funeral took place in the city where he stayed a lot of time and which was the most important core of the anarchist movement in Spain and Catalonia, Barcelona. He was buried in the cementery of Montjuich, in Barcelona, alongside his great friend Francisco Ascaso Abadía, who died in July 19 of 1936. After war, his tomb was looted and destroyed by the Nationalist soldiers.
