The de Havilland Mosquito II DZ231/YP-R of No 23 Squadron, Royal Air Force flying over Malta. The No 23 Squadron, converted to Mosquito IIs in July 1942, moved to Luqa, Malta in December of that year, from whence the long-range intruder missions were flown to targets in Sicily, Italy, Tunisia and Southern France. The soldier tallest to the front of the photo is my Grandfather, Frank Marshall who served in the British Artillery, 59th(Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment R.A., during the War. This picture was taken in Britain, when they were firing practice shells into the English Channel.
