The Air Vice Marshal’s Spitfire

Air Officer Commanding Malta, Air Vice Marshal Sir Keith Park, in the cockpit of his personal Supermarine Spitfire V before his ceremonial take-off at Malta's new aerodrome at Safi, May 1943. Born in New Zealand, as commander of No. 11 Group RAF Keith Park was a protagonist of the Battle of Britain. Air Office Commanding-in-Chief Middle East Command from January 1944, after the war Keith Park, retired from the RAF and promoted to Air Chief Marshal on 20 December 1946, returned to New Zealand, where he took up a number of civic roles and was elected to the Auckland City Council. Keith Park lived in New Zealand until his death on 6 February 1975, aged 82 years. Victor Sierra
