Reggio Calabria, Southern Italy, 3 September 1943:the first men of the RAF Regiment to arrive in the town establish their headquarters in the town within minutes of landing in Calabria, on other side of Messina Streets, Operation Baytown, of the British 13th Corps of British 8th Army, first step for the Allied invasion of Mainland Italy.
