A Boeri’s post card

An issue, April 1941, of “L’Aquilone” (“The Kite”), one of many aeronautical propaganda’s magazines edited during the Fascism and during the war years (until 1943) by Editoriale Aeronautica, the Italian Air Ministry’s publishing house that, de facto, had the monopoly of the Italian aeronautical publications. “L’Aquilone” was found private venture on 1931 in Turin, monthly and afterward bimonthly, approved by the Reale Aero Club d'Italia (Royal Air Club of Italy) as “Aeronautical propaganda journal for the Italy’s youth”. On 1933 the magazine was took over by Editoriale Aeronautica and, published weekly, “L’Aquilone” kept its target, the youth, thanks also to a cover price of 60 cents, suitable for the majority of the young reader. As the other Editoriale Aeronautica’s magazine, also “L’Aquilone” was a good and beautiful newspaper with many interesting articles and stories appropriate for its young target including the aircraft modeling, at this time considered the first step to aviation (and the Air Force in particular) with construction plans, and suggestions, of simple air models as sailplanes and models with rubber propulsion. “L’Aquilone” was published until 1943 when with the Italy’s fall the Editoriale Aeronautica stopped the activity. After the war was attempted the publish of a new edition of “L’Aquilone”, but without success and the journal was closed after few issues. Victor Sierra
