At about the same time as they were removing the civil rights of Socialists, Communists, Jews, and Anyone Else They Didn't Like, the Nazis banned animal vivisection.  This satirical cartoon shows the laboratory animals saluting the law's sponsor, Hermann Goering, in celebration.  The irony in the fact that the SS-controlled German medical system subsequently sanctioned and practiced human vivisection on Jews, Russian PoWs, Roma, and other "subhumans" is nearly unbearable ...
