SS-Untersturmführer (2nd Lieutenant) Gerardes Mooyman (born 1923 in Holland, died 1987 in Holland) of 14th company/SS-Freiwilligen-Legion "Nederland". He was the first European volunteer to be awarded with the Knight's Cross (February 20th 1943) for destroying 17 Soviet tanks during the fierce battles around Leningrad/Wolchow in January and February 1943. After the war he was arrested and imprisoned for five years by the Dutch authorities because of "membership in a military organization without permission of the Dutch government". After his release he led a quiet life as a painter and died in a car accident on June 21st 1987 near the Dutch village of Anloo.
