Bring out Big Mama
Description
Men from Battery "B" of the 578th Field Artillery Battalion fire an 8-inch howitzer (nick-named "Big Mama") outside the hamlet of Neunhausen, Luxembourg, 10 miles south-east of Bastogne, Belgium, in support of the US 90th Infantry Division advance in the Doncols, Luxembourg area.
It shows the typical hilly terrain, encountered in Luxembourg's Ardennes forest. Steep valleys and deep gorges made cross-country movement difficult for foot troops; Battle of the Bulge, January 15, 1945.
