This is where we are, you see...?

General Eisenhower visited Patton at Bad Tölz, Germany and found that Patton had left SS soldiers in charge of concentration camp security. This visit, along with Patton’s public statements, led to his dismissal as commander of the Third Army; 1945.

Post war reshuffle

General Patton visits his son-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel John Waters, while the latter recuperates in Walter Reed U.S. Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Waters had been held in a German prison camp for three years. Patton was reported to have attempted a rescue operation at one time.

On a cold, dark December morning in 1944, B Company, 1st Battalion, 15th Regiment began the slow approach to Hill 351. Coming under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire from a well-entrenched enemy, these soldiers of the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division were forced to dig in.

Battle of the Bulge time...

His most-dramatic action came at Bastogne, Belgium, where the Germans had encircled the 101st Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge (December 16, 1944–January 16, 1945). 
Abrams’s battalion was the first element of the Third Army to break through the siege, on December 26, 1944. For his heroics in these engagements, he was twice awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
