A burning jeep most probably sustained a direct hit from a German mortar shell. German incoming fire was very active in the village of Nothum, Luxembourg, after it was occupied by US Forces. The GIs are from the 3rd Battalion of the 104th Infantry Regiment, US 26th Infantry Division; Battle of the Bulge, January 10, 1945.

Men from Battery "B" of the 578th Field Artillery Battalion fire an 8-inch howitzer (nick-named "Big Mama") outside the hamlet of Neunhausen, Luxembourg, 10 miles south-east of Bastogne, Belgium, in support of the US 90th Infantry Division advance in the Doncols, Luxembourg area.
