Warhorse HQ, 1943.

US Army.

Stock remount horses at the US Army Remount Depot at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, 1943. This Depot, the largest of a number established in the aftermath of WW1 to secure an adequate supply of horses for the Army in the event of another war, still held as many as 12,000 horses in 1943, along with a large number of mules. Given the changing nature of warfare, most of these horses enjoyed a comfortable life without ever having to suffer the rigors that afflicted the average WW1 "Warhorse". Best regards, JR.
