Alaska to Siberia project? It’s a fascinating story which few people know about.  But the U.S. sent 8,000 warplanes to Russia along this route – and the Third Reich couldn’t figure out how the heck they were getting there. These planes played a major role in reversing German fortunes on the Eastern front. Thousands of American and Russian pilots involved on this 10,000 mile route. It was top secret and remains largely unknown to the public.

B-17F bombers (Boeing B-17F-30-VE Flying Fortress) of the 350th Bomber Squadron, 100th Bombardment Group, during a bombing raid on Warnemünde, Germany, in July 1943.  The B-17, tail number 42-5867, with the name "Alice from Dallas", was shot down by anti-aircraft fire during a raid on Regensburg on August 17, 1943.
