Polish infantrymen in the Thirties

In the picture: Polish infantrymen in late 1930s. A piece of history: The Polish defence in 1939 plan to face up German invasion was completely imperfect. 1 000 000 men were ordered to fight the so-called border battle (bitwa graniczna) so as not to hand over western Polish land. It resulted from the fear that Germans could capture those lands and declare the end of the war. Such accomplished facts would be hopeless for Poland which economy was based on highly developed industry located in that part of the country. Performing such military plan, almost all the Polish armies were lost within 2 weeks of the combats just around border areas. As if it wasn't enough, Poles instead of defending cities and creating natural obstacles for German panzer units, were fighting with the enemy, mainly in open areas which resulted in heavy losses caused by German Luftwaffe and panzer division. No wonder that only 28 days were enugh to take Warsaw. Kind regards. Bóg,Honor i Ojczyzna, komandos10
