Libyan Desert, likely 1942: a South African Air Force’s Boston Mark III bomber aircraft emerge from the cloud of sand and dust raised by his engines at take-off power on Bir el Beheira airfield (Notice the rough terrain). The plane of the photo is an aircraft of No. 12 Squadron SAAF which, arrived in North Africa, after the East African Campaign against the Italians, replaced on March 1942 his Martin Maryland with the Douglas Boston III. The latter was in service until December 1943 when was replaced by the Martin Marauder II. Victor Sierra
