battleship yamato displacing at 65,027 tonnes with 9 18 inch guns she was the largest and most heavily armed battleship ever put to sea. constructed in 1937 from Kure Naval Arsena in Hiroshima. she was launched in August 8 of 1940. her only true navel battle was during the battle of samar where she and the center force with a total 4 battleships, 6 heavy cruisers,2 light cruisers, and 11 destroyers fought against a U.S task called taffy 3 with 6 escort carriers, 3 destroyers,and 4 destroyer escorts. yamato left the battle for unknown reason. in April 7 1945 she embarked on a desperate but futile kamikaze mission with 1 light cruiser and 8 destroyers to beached them selves as coastal artillery to defend Okinawa against the us navy. she was spoted by us submarines. she was engaged by 300 aircraft from us carries and lasted 3 waves of 300 us naval aircraft. she took at least 15 bombs and torpedo hits and sank and in a massive explosion in a shape of a mushroom cloud that was able to been seen from Kyushu
