Lateral view of a Macchi MC.202 “Folgore” (Lightning), the most famous fighter of the Italian Regia Aeronautica in WW2. The aircraft’s immaculate condition indicate a plane fresh factory just after the delivery to the allotment’s unit, in this case the 353nd Squadriglia of XXth Gruppo, 51st Stormo (“Black Cat”). The 51st Stormo, founded in 1939, used the “Fogore” from the Spring of 1942 from Sicilian airfield for missions over Malta. In my opinion this photo is worthy for a colorization by the many WW2in color’s experts! Victor Sierra

IMAM Ro.41 single-seater of Scuola Caccia (Fighter School) based at Foligno Airfield, near Perugia, and established in 1935. Note the acronym FOL for Foligno. The photo, perhaps 1939 or beginning 1940 (the aircraft has the camouflage and the Italian tricolor on the rudder) was taken in area North of airfield. Indeed in background appear the Subasio Mount wich has in the back the towns of Assisi and Perugia. Victor Sierra

The glazed nose of a recce plan Caproni Ca.310 “Libeccio” (Southwest wind), a twin engines employed by the Italian Regia Aeronautica during the first phase of the war. For a brief time, on June 1940, the “Libeccio” was used also for close air support, task discovered himself completely unsuitable for this type of aircraft. Victor Sierra
