An effect of the Rome Protocol

Hungarian Forces

An effect of the Rome Protocol

An effect of the signing of the Rome Protocol between the Governments of Italy and Hungary, 1935, was the purchase by the Hungarians of many Italian military aircraft for the not still officially established Hungarian Air Force at this time knew under the cover name of Hungarian Aviation Department/Magyar Légügyi Hivata (the Treaty of Trianon, 1920, banned a Hungarian Air Force). One of first Made in Italy militaries aircraft purchased by the Hungarians was the single engine biplane Fiat CR-30, the direct predecessor of the most famous CR.32, powered by a Fiat A.30RA 600-hp in line engine. Two CR.30 was received by the Hungarians in 1936 followed by one former Italian aircraft (all this three airplanes was single-seat) and in 1938 by ten two-seat CR.30B. Finally the Hungarian received two ex-Austrian aircraft and so the total of the Magyar’s CR.30 was fifteen aircraft. The all silver finished aircraft of this photo are CR.30B and notice two different tail markings (one of them is without tail markings); this likely date the photo just after the officially establishment of the Hungarian Air Force on 1938.
