Once she was caught up in the great-power struggle of the Second World War, Hungary, a  small country of about 15 million people, made a major effort to manufacture all the necessary instruments of war, including the armored vehicles shown here,  for equipping the many hundreds of thousands of her sons sent off to batlle,. (A similar earlier posting of mine seems to have been deleted.)

When the Soviet onslaught began in January, 1943, in the absence of a sufficient number of tanks, originally promised by Berlin, Hungarian artillery proved to be the most effective in delaying Red Army advance.
