Not all Corn Flakes ... more Kellogs at war.

Kellog Corporation

Answering the burgeoning demand for its breakfast cereals in the UK, the Kellog Company, with great fanfare, opened a factory at Trafford Park, Manchester, England, in 1938. Unfortunately, the immediate constraint on the corn supply occasioned by the outbreak of war cut off corn flake manufacture just as it was getting going. Kellogs maintained their commitment to its UK operation, raising substantial ARP (Air Raid Protection) and Home Guard units from the factory staff. Unfortunately, these well-intentioned acts did nothing to fend off the next disaster - the destruction (wiping off the face of the Earth) of the Trafford Park factory in the Manchester branch of the Luftwaffe Blitz (1940/'41), leaving only impressive bomb craters (example shown) in its wake. Even this did not put off the Kellog Company, which continued to support its badly battered UK operation. After the war, the Trafford factory was rebuilt, and began to supply corn flakes etc. to the UK market in 1950. In the midst of continued rationing in Old Blighty, this cannot have been unwelcome. Best regards, JR.
