Detrained ?

Bundesarchiv.

T-34 Soviet tanks abandoned by a railway line, 6th Army area, Summer 1942. Hard to be sure exactly what happened here - but it would appear that these tanks were detrained by a German attack of some sort in the course of rail transport. The 6th Army was headed for Stalingrad, and Soviet response in the early stages of the campaign was as confused and ineffective as had been the case in the previous Summer's "Barbarossa". In the end, German successes like this amounted to hollow victories. Best regards, JR.
