This is the turret of a German Maus. The sheer size of this tank becomes clear when we realise that on top of it is the turret from a Tiger I! The Maus wasn’t a ‘paper panzer’ dreamt up towards the end of the Second World War. In fact in early 1943 the Germans decided to begin production of the 188 ton tank. Delays to production due to damage from Allied bombing led to the cancellation of the project that October, probably the only example of a tank programme cancelled due to the bombing campaign. taken from fb/ The Tank Museum
