US soldier examines a disabled/destroyed PzKpfw V Ausf G Panther tank, Ardennes, late-December, 1944.  The tank appears to have suffered damage to the area of the right-hand side of the gun mantlet.  Also, the left-hand drive sprocket is just visible on the far side, indicating that the tank has been detracked on that side.  Best regards, JR.

Panther tank ambadoned

PzKpfw V Ausf G Panther tank, one of a batch of 24 built by the MAN firm, September 1944.  These tanks were distinguished by being fitted with steel-tired road wheels with internal rubber buffering, rather than the standard rubber-rimmed road wheels.  This appears to have been an experiment to assess possible improvement in durability of Panther road wheels - it was not taken up as a standard adaptation to the Panther.  Best regards, JR.
