Last of the PxKpfw III series, this type mounted a "short" 75 mm L24 gun (the type mounted on early models of the PzKpfw IV).  The intention was to employ the Mark III - seriously obsolete as a battle tank by 1942 - as support tank, providing high-explosive backup for infantry and for the new Tigers.
