Finnish soldiers at the monument to V. I. Lenin in the occupied city of Petrozavodsk in East Karelia, which stretches along the western shore of Lake Onega for some 27 kilometers (17 mi). The Finnish conquest of East Karelia was a military campaign in 1941. It was part of the Continuation War. Finnish troops occupied East Karelia and held it until 1944.
