Pembroke Stephens- 1937

Journalist Philip Pembroke Stephens- shot in Shanghai while watching the fighting from a water tower, when a Japanese machine gunner unexpectedly raised his aim. The Japanese apologized, explaining that they had been shooting at snipers on nearby roof-tops. "P. Pembroke Stephens lying on the stretcher as he was being place in an ambulance to be taken to the mortuary. He had been dead for half an hour before the cease (fire) making it possible to bring him down from the tower."
