The 566 th Attack Aviation Regiment of the IL-2 aircraft was organized in Voronezh, from 7 to 12 September 1941 The first combat sorties regiment crews started to perform at Moscow from 27 November of the same year. During the WW2 566th regiment participated in Bryansk and Zhizdra operations, breakout and lifting the siege of Leningrad, the liberation of Estonia. The last fights were in East Prussia. During the war, the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded the 12 Regiment pilots and pilot Vasily Myhlik - Twice.
