Glen Bower killed in Italy

Glen Bower, F5170. Glen was born 20 August 1920 in Baccaro, Shelburne County; wounded and died in Italy as a result of his wounds on 23 January 1944. He was the son of Charles and Lucy Edna (Crowell) Bower. He had three brothers Carlyle, who was also killed in action, Everette, deceased, and LeRoy as well as four sisters, Marion, Ellen, Bessie and Edna. Glen was a labourer when he enlisted 6 April 1941in Yarmouth. He went overseas on 19 August 1942 with a tank unit and was in action in the Sicilian campaign before proceeding to mainland Italy. At Riccione, a sea-side resort on the Adriactic Coast, he received mortar shell wounds to his head, arm and chest at 1630 hours and died at 2215 hours. Buried at Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, at Grave 6, Row A, Plot 6, Italy.
