"The worst spot in Normandy" it was called by the troops involved in the battle. Both sides suffered heavy losses, e.g. the "5th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry" lost about 30 vehicles within the paddock area against heavy SS Tank Battalion 102. July, 1944.
