New Guinea WOUNDED AMERICAN AND AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS waiting to be evacuated. Date unknown. The Native porters were recruited by the administration in New guinea, and were referred to as Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels. Many Australian troops have commented on the care and gentleness displayed by them.

He was received in Australia almost like royalty after the fall of the Phillipines and appointed CinC of the allied forces in Australia and New Guinea, His misunderstanding of the New Guinea terrain and his perceived lack of progress made by Australian troops, led to many unecessary casualties.
