    This was the second flag raising on Mount Suribachi but it wasn’t a staged photograph. Joe Rosenthal just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The first flag raising was photographed by Sergeant Louis Lowery but by the time of the second flag raising his camera had been hit by enemy fire.

    Read James Bradley's Flags of our Fathers ( the movie does not fully make you appreciate what these men really gave ) and you get the truest sense of who these men, and to an extent all men who sacrifice their lives, were. God Bless them all...
