The .30 Carbine cartridge was developed specifically for the M1 Carbine and does not work with any other U.S. military weapon. The Carbine cartridge has considerably less force than the .30-06 rifle(.30 cal for the Garand) cartridge. The .30 carbine casing has no neck and is longer than a pistol cartridge and a round nose bullet.

Thanks to Ostuf W & beesa for pointing out my error. However, was the .30 calibre round the same as in the standard issue rifle or was it lower powered?

  • beesa (Mon 30 Nov 2009 04:28:53 AM EST)

It was the M1 Thompson that fired the .45 ACP round.

  • Ostuf W (Mon 30 Nov 2009 01:26:32 AM EST)

    I thought that M1 shot .30 Carbine rounds (7,62x33).

Another point to note: The M1 was defined as a carbine, not a rifle because it fired .45 calibre pistol ammunition.

Not a *clip* but a "magazine"...sorry. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Notice the M1, clip in, only an arms reach away. And sniper fire would be something to worry about depending on the location. No matter, this was his moment, and he seemed to be enjoying it. Gotta get me one of those rifles. Any ideas?

I think the fighting Marines in the pacific had the worst combat of all. Most of the time there was no question of surrender or being taken prisoner. It was almost always a fight to the death.
