I've never been there but as a teen I have been on vacation in the Black Forest which is not too far away from Kehl.

FTG, you ever heard of or been to Kehl, Germany. My faters parents are from there...on the border with France.

Sorry, us newbies have to run and look on wiki! The 28th was mostly Pennsylvania National Guard. I didn't know about Eddie Slovik until I just now read about him. Sad, used him as an example for others, even after him requesting to be re-assigned.

Aachen is about 20 miles away from Hürtgenforest. 28th US infantry is from Pennsylvania, right? BTW, Eddie Slovik was part of the "Keystone-Division" as well IIRC.

It would be hard to figure that. Is Aachen near where the battle for Hurtgen forest happened? Looking at the forest, anyone could get lost in there. I don't know about getting lost in a city though. (i know you can get "lost", but MIA?)

Hi, mland. I am from Aachen and it's a shocking and incomprehensible thought that soldiers being MIA in this very area. You rather expect this in the far steppes of Russia, a jungle in the PTO or maybe huge wooden areas.

My Uncle, Elmer W. Land, hardly 24 YO was in the U.S. Army, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division and was MIA at Aachen Germany Sptember 16, 1944.

what a waste of good men, but war is war, yes, the 28th had a tough time to put it lightly

The Germans called it the "Bloody Bucket" Division.

...straight towards Hurtgenforest! The "Keystone" division really got a beating at the so called All Souls'Day-Battle near the village of Schmidt. They had to be pulled out of the front line afterwards.
