JR- I believe the Locust tank was used in combat in the later airborne operations of the war (the Rhine drops?)IIRC. I could very well be wrong about that, but I think either the British or the Americans, or both, used glider-borne Locusts. Although, I'm not sure how much good they would have been by 1944-45. But I guess a small tank with a popgun is better than no tanks at all...

Caption should read "Don't mess with me or I'll call in my big Mama!"

Rytis - I stand corrected, thanks ! The Locust had not occurred to me because (unlike real locusts) this was a relatively rarely-occurring type. The forward part of the turret, the exterior gun mounting, and the relatively shallow "inverted punt" upper hull, along with the Stuart-like lower works, all point to the M22 Locust. Presumably, it seen here "going for a walk" on an American proving ground, along with its even rarer (and, as far as I know, never used in combat) big brother, the t28/95 tank/motor gun carriage. Thanks again, JR.

This looks like M 22 Light tank, or Locust tank

There are "oddities" about this, for a Stuart. The most curious are the shape of the forward part of the turret, and the precise conformation of the rear hull. However, I suspect that some distortion may have come about owing to the angle of "take" of the 'photo. Also, as downwithpeace says, there were a number of variations to Stuart conformation, affecting not only turrets but body armour, also. The general shape of the turret suggests to me that this is probably a late-model Stuart - an M5 (what the British called Stuart VI), or an M5a1. These later models featured redesigned, elongated turrets of the type seen in the present vehicle. Best regards, JR.

The Stuart had a few models, some with different turrets.

I don't think that isn't a Stuart. The turret is too round.
