   The LVT (Landing Vehicle Tracked) is an amphibious landing craft.
Originally intended solely as cargo carriers for ship to shore operations, they evolved into assault troop and fire support vehicles. They were known as amphtrack, "Amtrac", "amtrack", "alligator" etc.     _
