    I dont think the apparition in the top right corner is that of a ghost more likely muzzle flash from the barrel of the gun the soldier's position appears to be braced therefore it is likely he was firing a burst when this photo was taken.

    this could have been staged for the photographer. But it is definetly in a combat zone. could be a lull in the fighting and taking advantage of this for photo taking.

    Its not staged. In combat your trained how to deal in a combat situation. German soilders were very well trained and battle hardened.
