"The Armored Count"

"The Armored Count" (on the left of the photo), full name Hyazinth Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz. Lieutenant General Strachwitz was the highest ranking reserve officer of the German Wehrmacht, he was one of only 27 recipients of the Knight's Cross with oakleaves, swords and diamonds and probably one of Germany's leading commanders of armored forces. Between 1941 and 1945 he was wounded 13 times. Although his name was mentioned in the files of "July 20, 1944" he was never interrogated or even arrested. His son was killed in the last days of the war as an infantry officer. (Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-701-0357-14)
