Two female Soviet partisans (or possibly Soviet delegates to a partisan unit) under German guard, Russia, 1942. The guards are members of a German Order Police Special Police Battalion. Note the "Police Eagle" emblems on their caps, and the absence of the "Reich Eagle" from their right breasts (they would have worn either a "Police Eagle" or a "Reich" or "SS" Eagle on their upper left sleeves). The ORPO Reserve and Special Reserve Police Battalions supplied much of the muscle for security behind the Eastern Front, including the activities of the Einsatzgruppen and other "special operations". The prospects for these ladies would not have been great ... JR.
