What I don't understand is why it seems like even the most ardent Nazis denied the Holocaust after the fall of the Reich. One would think they'd be proud of it? And somebody of his rank in the SS should've known about it for sure...

After the war he remained a diehard National Socialist and Holocaust denier. He died in exile in Spain.

This seems to be an example of somebody adopting a slightly unnatural pose in order to display his cuff title - which, as far as I can make out, is that of "Grossdeutschland" in Sutterlin script.
