This wheel-cum-track configuration vehicle is a SdKfz 254 medium armored observation post vehicle (mittlerer Gepanzerte Beobachtungskraftwagen). It was relatively rare as only 128 were produced by the vehicle manufacturer Saurer in Vienna, Austria from June, 1940 to March, 1941. Usual armament was one MG34 machinegun for the seven crew members. They saw service in North Africa and the Soviet Union and were assigned to Panzerartillerie units. Especially useful was the vehicle's long-range FuG 8 radio which had a frame antenna.
