Rhodes, late Spring 1945. South African troops looking at a Luftwaffe’s FW 200 Condor captured virtually intact after the Allied conquest of this Island and the German troops surrender. During the Campaign of Italy many German aircraft fallen into hands of Allied virtually intact as this Bf 109G (“Gelb 7”/“Yellow 7”) of JG27 “Pik As” abandoned on a Sicilian airfield, likely Comiso, after the conquest of the Sicily, Summer 1943. Another Bf 109, it too in good conditions, is in the background. For an American GI is the opportunity for a souvenir photo. Victor Sierra
