German soldiers and Spanish Guardia Civil gendarme, apparently puzzling over a map.  Does anybody In Here know what is going on in this photo ?  I came across it when looking for something else.  It seems to have to do with an incursion into Spanish territory by a German patrol in the mountainous French-German border region, but I have not managed to find out anything more about it. Can anyone identify this?  I don't know if it's from World War I or II. The cylinder is 4 inches (101 mm) long with a diameter of 1 inch (25 mm). Not sure if it's copper or brass in construction. The upper half has 4 double rows of holes totaling 20 holes. On the bottom of the cylinder is an image of a dog, sitting down and in the upper right corner are the letters
 "D R G M". All I know is that it was brought home by either my wife's grandfather (WW I) or her uncle (WWII).   Thank you.
