I-ULIA, the Air Marshal Italo Balbo’s personal Storch, also the first plane of this type registered in Italy. The I-ULIA, Fieseler Flugzeugbau Fi.156C-1 Storch, WrkN 719, date of registration in the Italian Civil Aeronautical Registry January 20, 1939, was a personal gift by the Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring to Balbo after the gift to same Göring of a Venus statue found at Leptis Magna, Cyrenaica. The registration I-ULIA is referred to Giuliana Balbo, the Balbo’s daughter, Ulia for his family. One year after the Balbo’s death, June 28, 1940, on July 1941 the I-ULIA was cancelled from the Aeronautical Civil Registry an switched to Regia Aeronautica which during the war employed some Storch.
