I know that there complex legal questions as to the status of a "peoples' war", and that the situation in international law has changed somewhat since 1945. That having been said - it is very hard, indeed, to call resistants like these "criminals", in any moral sense. They were fighting for the freedom of their country against oppressive foreign occupation and a collaboration regime that was, in terms of the pre-existing French Constitution, illegal. I would not call them "criminals". "Courageous" would be a more appropriate description, in particular, in view of the refusal of the Germans (arguably legal at the time, but ...) to afford them recognition as legitimate combatants. By the way - I am Irish, not French, but we are old friends. Vive la France ! JR

Poasis is an idiot. How to join the army (in 1940) if there is no other army than the collaboration army.

Im a little more forgiving as I call them (resistance/partisans) defenders of their (respective) homelands.

They all are criminals. All partisans and resistance - nothing more than criminals because everyone who wants to resisist joins the army.
