Inset photo: Capt. John Foote, Padre of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, before boarding his landing-craft for Dieppe. Padre Foote performed heroically on the beach, working under constant fire to bring the wounded back to the landing-crafts and repeatedly returning to the battle. When the Allies finally withdrew, he refused to leave the many helpless and injured who needed his care, and for his bravery was awarded the Victoria Cross. 30 years later, Col. Foote relaxes at home in Coburg, Ontario with his cello.
