Canadian machine-gunners at the battle of Carpiquet airfield, Normandy, 4-5 July 1944. The Canadians, with the assistance of British forces and RAF groundstrike aircraft, captured and held their objective against heavy counterattacks from 12 SS Panzerdivision "Hitlerjugend". Note the M III "Turtle" helmets. The Canadians seem to have been more advanced in phasing in this pattern, in substitution for the old "Brodie" ("tin hat") pattern. Best regards, JR.
