I think the pilot is Burmese! Saw the pic elsewhere. It's from 1943, reasonable early on, note 3 blade prop and "car door " cockpit.

Buddy this is a Hawker Typhoon, a squadron was based just down the road from at Shoreham Airfield in Sussex. They were an exellent fast ground attack aircraft that caused havoc against the retreating German forces in Normandy useing rockets and cannon.

Probably easily mistaken for a JU87 Stuka dive-bomber, with that large radiator. It was another design that was intended to replace the Spitfire.

Due to incorrect identification when the Aircraft first went into service, markings were applied under the wings (not a D,Day aircraft no fuselage bands) and yellow was applied to the leading edge. Time of markings Nov/Dec 1942.

The markings are identification markings applied at the factory to stop friendly fire.
